In appreciation for their service, leadership, and sacrifice, a host of VA benefits await eligible veterans, active-duty military members, and family members living in our area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most significant benefits is VA loan eligibility. VA loans offer $0 down payment options, better terms and interest rates, and fewer closing costs than conventional mortgages. And, since they\u2019re government-backed, it might be easier for eligible applicants to get approved for a VA loan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are a few other Rhode Island and Massachusetts veteran benefits that we don\u2019t want you to miss:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Massachusetts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Tuition Waivers<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Full- or partial-tuition waivers are available to all eligible Massachusetts veterans (on a space-available basis) at any state college or university<\/a>. Members of the Massachusetts National Guard receive a 100% tuition and fee waiver at state colleges, universities, and community colleges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recreation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

All active-duty personnel stationed in Massachusetts can buy fishing and hunting licenses at resident rates. Also, disabled veterans (traveling in vehicles bearing disabled veteran license plates) receive day-use parking waivers at all Massachusetts state parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tax Breaks<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

All military retired pay is tax-free, while eligible disabled veterans can receive property tax exemptions of $400-$1,500<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rhode Island<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Tuition Waivers<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Resident veterans with 10%-100% service-connected disabilities pay no tuition at Rhode Island colleges or universities<\/a>. Apply for and use financial aid first, and the remainder will be covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recreation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

All active-duty personnel (resident and non-resident alike) stationed in Rhode Island receive fishing and hunting licenses at resident rates, while disabled veterans can get them for free. Veterans with a 100% VA disability receive free admission to all Rhode Island state parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real estate and motor vehicle tax waivers are available for all veterans with other-than-dishonorable discharges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
